marriage proposal

Hillary and I first met at church. I had been attending for a while, but I hadn't really noticed her. One Sunday, I made a comment during Bible study that reminded her of Pastor Chris. She asked me if I attended Pastor Chris' church in Ghana and I said no. We didn't talk much after that. A few weeks later, Elder Daniel Felbah officially introduced us with the idea of working together in the youth ministry. We exchanged numbers but she accidentally gave me the wrong number. I managed to find the right one and texted her. We started texting regularly, and I began checking up on her frequently. To my surprise, she was doing an in-depth study of Exodus, just like I was. We found ourselves bonding over our shared insights and fellowship on this book, deepening our connection with each conversation.

Our first official date was her first date, so she didn’t really know what to expect. She dressed up nicely and even wore an accessory I had bought for her, but I was casually dressed. Realizing I was underdressed, I wished I had put more effort into my outfit. But in the end, it didn’t matter. We sat down and talked, and our shared love for the Word became the heart of our conversation. It was beautiful how we connected over something so meaningful, making the evening truly special.

The proposal was on a Saturday. It was supposed to be on a Sunday, faceted into his friend's birthday, but I ended up finding out about the surprise, so the surprise wasn’t a surprise anymore. So, on that Saturday, we had a meeting in Columbus. And on our way, I saw a text from my mum pop up on his phone, asking what time she was supposed to be there. It gave the surprise away, but I pretended to be unaware because he had put a lot of effort into it. As I entered the scene, my mum and a couple of our mutual friends were there with a beautiful and serene proposal decor. He got down on one knee and asked THE question, "Will you marry me?" while holding the ring in its box in his hand, and I replied, "YES!" It became so real that yes, I’m about to be his wife. I said yes to a lifelong journey with the most resilient and amazing man I’ve ever met. They say covenants are strengthened by adversities. To every pit and every fall, here we are, standing strong on his foundation.

1 Corinthians 13:8.
